## Summary

**Exempts certain farmed sturgeon and their offspring from key Endangered Species Act prohibitions while they remain in captivity.** It would attach demonstration and recordkeeping requirements and the exemption ends if the fish are intentionally returned to the wild. - Sturgeon farmers and captive holders: Would not be subject to subsection (a)(1) and section 7(a)(2) for sturgeon legally held in captivity as of enactment and for their progeny while those fish remain in captivity. Holders must be able to demonstrate qualification and maintain inventories and records to provide to the Secretary on request. - Secretary and federal regulators: Would get authority to require inventories, documentation, and records by regulation. The statute says those regulatory requirements must not needlessly duplicate other rules under the Act. - Wild-return process: Any sturgeon intentionally returned to a wild state would lose the exemption and again be subject to the Act's protections.
