**Protecting servicemembers and their dependents from certain debt-collection threats.** This bill would bar debt collectors from threatening rank reduction, security-clearance revocation, or prosecution under the Uniform Code of Military Justice and would require a GAO study on effects for readiness and national security. - Servicemembers and families: Active members, covered dependents, people separated within 365 days, and Selected Reserve members would be protected from collectors who threaten to cut rank, strip clearances, or seek military prosecution. - Debt collectors and creditors: Collectors would still be allowed to provide accurate, lawful information about debts and consequences as long as they do not use the prohibited threats. - Military readiness and national security: The Government Accountability Office would study how the changes affect timely delivery of information, military readiness, and impacts on security-clearance holders and uncollected debt.
