## Summary

**Raises criminal penalties for people who reenter the United States after removal.** This bill would increase prison terms for unlawful reentry, expand who counts as "removed," and add mandatory minimums for serious or repeat offenders. - People who were denied admission, excluded, deported, or removed and who later enter or are found in the U.S. without advance consent from the Department of Homeland Security would face fines or up to 5 years in prison, up from a 2 year maximum under current law. - Individuals removed or denied admission three or more times who reenter or are found in the U.S. would face up to 10 years in prison. - People who were convicted of an aggravated felony before removal, or who had at least two convictions before removal, would face a mandatory minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison and could also be fined. - The bill expands the definition of "removal" to include certain agreements where an individual stipulates to removal during or outside a criminal trial. This change would bring some plea or stipulation-based removals within the reentry penalties.
