## Summary

**Stops deceptive and AI-generated schemes that mislead or intimidate voters.** This bill would ban knowingly false communications meant to impede or prevent voting in covered Federal elections and would treat material falsehoods produced by artificial intelligence the same as other deceptive information. - Voters: Would bar materially false claims about the time, place, or manner of an election, voter eligibility, registration status, or penalties within 60 days of a covered Federal election, including content made with generative AI. - People who spread misinformation: Would create a private right to sue for injunctions and attorney’s fees and would add criminal penalties under amended law that allow fines or imprisonment for not more than 1 year for deceptive acts or corrupt interference with voting or registration. - Department of Justice and election officials: Would require the Attorney General to correct credible false information when State or local officials have not adequately done so. The Attorney General must publish procedures within 180 days, consult election officials and civil rights groups, report to Congress within 180 days after each general Federal election covering the prior two years, and the bill authorizes appropriations to carry out corrective actions.
