## Summary

**Create an annual African Diaspora Heritage Month.** This bill would add a section to federal law asking the President to issue a yearly proclamation urging state and local governments, schools, and communities to hold programs and activities that honor the African diaspora. - Families and communities would get a nationally recognized month to celebrate cultural and historical contributions. The African diaspora in the United States is about 50 million people. - State and local governments and schools would be urged to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities that highlight history, culture, and contributions. - The bill would insert Section 149 into Chapter 1 of Title 36 of the U.S. Code and direct an annual presidential proclamation to establish the observance.
