## Summary

**Expand battlefield preservation grants and funding.** This bill would extend and strengthen several grant programs under the American Battlefield Protection Program and require federal studies of sites tied to the French and Indian War and the Mexican-American War. - Preservation groups, states, tribes, and local governments would gain access to more restoration and interpretation grants. Two grant programs raise their numeric cap from 50 to 75. - The Secretary of the Interior, through the National Park Service Director, would study sites tied to the French and Indian War and the Mexican-American War. Studies must identify sites, assess significance and threats, propose preservation and interpretation options including possible National Park System designation, consult governors, tribes, local governments and preservation organizations including the American Battlefield Trust, and report results to Congress within two years after funding is available. - Authorizes $2.0 million per year for grants through fiscal year 2035 to support battlefield acquisition, restoration, and interpretation. *Would authorize $2.0 million per year through FY2035 for battlefield grants, increasing federal spending by that amount if appropriated.*

## Provisions PRIA read

- Extend battlefield acquisition program: benefit, low. If enacted, the bill would extend the statutory authorization period for the Battlefield Acquisition Grant Program by changing the authorization year from 2028 to 2035. This would keep the acquisition grant authority in law through FY2035 but would not itself provide new funding.
- More battlefield grant money, higher caps: benefit, low. If enacted, the bill would authorize $2,000,000 to be appropriated each fiscal year through FY2035 to provide grants for battlefield interpretation modernization and battlefield restoration. It would also raise the statutory numeric cap in subsection (c) for those two grant programs from 50 to 75.…
- Studies of historic war sites: benefit, low. If enacted, the bill would require the Interior Secretary, through the National Park Service Director, to study U.S. sites tied to the French and Indian War (1754–1763) and the Mexican‑American War (1846–1848). The studies would identify sites, assess significance and threats, and recommend preserv…
