## Summary

**Strengthening Inspector General independence**. This bill would bar the President from nominating anyone who is serving as a political appointee, or who previously served as a political appointee under that same President, to be an Inspector General and clarifies that the IG position is not itself treated as a political appointment for this rule. - Inspectors General and watchdog offices: Would make it harder for an appointing President to place their own political appointees into IG roles. That aims to protect the impartiality of federal oversight. - Presidents and administrations: Limits who the President may nominate to IG posts by excluding current political appointees and appointees who served under the same President. - Agencies and hiring practices: Agencies will need to identify nominees who are not political appointees under the appointing President when filling IG vacancies.
