## Summary

**Requires mandatory consumer safety standards for lithium-ion batteries in micromobility devices.** The bill would direct the Consumer Product Safety Commission to finalize standards that adopt ANSI/CAN/UL 2271, 2849, and 2272 within 180 days and treat those standards as consumer product safety rules. - People who ride e-bikes, scooters, and other micromobility devices would see products held to federal safety standards aimed at reducing battery fires and explosions. The Commission must collect incident details and deliver a report to Congress within 5 years. - Standards organizations must notify the Commission when they revise any of the three voluntary standards. A revised voluntary standard becomes a CPSC consumer product safety rule 180 days after notice unless the Commission, within 90 days, determines the revision does not improve safety. - The Commission would treat the adopted and revised standards as rules under section 9 of the Consumer Product Safety Act and must report to the Senate Commerce Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee on hazards, compliance, and manufacturing details when known.

## Provisions PRIA read

- Battery safety rules for micromobility devices: benefit, low. This bill would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to adopt three ANSI/CAN/UL lithium‑ion battery and e‑mobility standards within 180 days. The rule would apply only to "consumer products" as defined in the Consumer Product Safety Act. If those voluntary standards change after enactment…
