## Summary

**Targeted federal funding to expand and care for urban tree canopy in underserved communities.** The Neighborhood Tree Act creates a Neighborhood Tree Fund to pay for planting and maintaining trees and to direct projects to low-canopy, high-heat areas tied to historic inequities. - Residents in low-income and heat-vulnerable neighborhoods get prioritized tree planting and maintenance. Priority goes to census tracts with at least 20 percent poverty and areas identified on historical HOLC maps. - States, Indian Tribes, local governments, and community tree volunteer groups can receive Fund assistance for canopy health. Projects must follow rules developed with the Department of Housing and Urban Development that require community engagement, climate-informed design, site preparation, species selection, and monitoring, and not more than 10 percent of each year’s Fund may pay for community tree assessments. - The National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council expands and gains three non-governmental advisors, including one from a community under 50,000 residents and one from a low-income community. *Authorizes appropriations totaling $2.0 billion for fiscal years 2027–2031, increasing federal spending by that amount.*
