## Summary

**Tougher criminal penalties for thefts of firearms from licensed dealers and related businesses.** The bill would increase maximum and minimum prison terms and extend liability to attempted offenses to strengthen deterrence and clarify covered conduct. - Licensed importers, manufacturers, and dealers would face stronger legal protection because thefts from their business premises could carry up to a 20-year prison term. - People who steal or try to steal firearms from a Federal firearms licensee could face up to 20 years in prison; if the theft occurs during a burglary the bill sets a minimum of 3 years, and during a robbery a minimum of 5 years. - Prosecutors would be able to charge attempts the same as completed violations under the amended subsection, expanding charging options. - The bill defines burglary and references the statutory definition of robbery, which clarifies when the enhanced minimums apply and could change how cases are classified.
