## Summary

**This bill would require an operational pilot of orbital data centers and space-based cloud computing.** The pilot would test whether in-orbit processing can cut latency, reduce strain on ground links, and improve resilience for national security and joint missions. - Military missions: Would let the Department of Defense test orbital data center services in real scenarios like intelligence, command and control, and space domain awareness. Tests would measure latency, resilience, and how the services integrate with existing C2 and network systems. - Industry and timelines: Would direct the Defense Innovation Unit to run the pilot within 1 year of enactment and encourage competitive participation from commercial and nontraditional defense providers. The authority to carry out the pilot would terminate 5 years after enactment. - Security and acquisition: Would require zero-trust architecture, encryption, insider threat protections, supply chain risk management, and protections against kinetic and nonkinetic threats.
