## Summary

**Prevent frontovers and low-speed injuries.** This bill would require the Department of Transportation to write a federal motor vehicle safety standard to reduce deaths and injuries from frontovers and other low-speed incidents. It sets specific tech requirements for detection, driver notification, active intervention, and distinct alerts. - Families and vulnerable road users: Vehicles would need to detect pedestrians including toddlers and small children, bicyclists, wheelchair users, micromobility riders, and others to help prevent frontovers and similar low-speed crashes. This targets protection for children and people using assistive devices. - Vehicle manufacturers: New passenger vehicles sold in the United States would have to include detection systems, a driver notification system, active intervention features, and clear auditory and visual alerts. The bill would require full compliance within 2 years after the final rule and allows a phased rollout that prioritizes vehicle types based on incident data. - NHTSA data and timelines: The Secretary would have to start rulemaking within 1 year and finish the final standard within 1 year after that start. The bill would add frontover and backover elements to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Non-Traffic Surveillance system within 30 days and require periodic 90-day progress reports to Congress if the final rule is delayed.
