## Summary

**Prohibits detention based solely on identity.** This bill would bar imprisoning or otherwise detaining an individual solely because of an actual or perceived protected characteristic such as race, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability, among others. - People and families in listed groups would face a specific legal protection against being jailed only for who they are. The bill names race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability. - Federal law enforcement and prosecutors would no longer be able to rely on identity alone to justify imprisonment. They could still detain people for conduct or lawful reasons unrelated to identity. - The Attorney General could add other protected characteristics but would be blocked from removing the core categories named in the bill.
