## Summary

**Interest-free deferment for medical and dental residents.** This bill would let borrowers serving in a medical or dental internship or residency pause federal student loan payments while interest does not accrue. It amends the Higher Education Act to add those programs to in-school deferment eligibility and creates a special rule saying periodic principal installments need not be paid and no interest accrues on loans made under the Act during the internship or residency period.
