Show full summary
- Active-duty service members would qualify for travel reimbursements when the nearest suitable specialty care is 50 miles away instead of 100 miles.
- Military retirees and their dependents are explicitly covered under the same 50-mile rule, giving them the same reduced-distance eligibility.
- Lowering the distance needed to qualify could make it easier for more beneficiaries to reach specialty providers by helping cover shorter travel trips.

Travel pay after 50 miles for TRICARE
This bill would lower the TRICARE travel-pay distance for specialty care from 100 miles to 50 miles. If enacted, more service members, retirees, and their dependents who travel 50+ miles one way could get reimbursed. The Defense Department would apply the 50-mile rule for retirees and dependents, with existing exceptions still in place. The bill does not set dollar amounts or an effective date.
