## Bill overview: provisions PRIA read

- More child deaths enter state reports: benefit, low. Beginning January 1, 2025, the state child fatality team includes child deaths and near-deaths identified by the Department of Child Safety in its annual report. Each report covers the prior year and is due by November 15. State agencies named in recommendations must respond within 60 days.
- Arizona reviews pregnancy-related deaths: benefit, low. Arizona reviews deaths during pregnancy and within one year after pregnancy ends. The program collects data, trains people involved in reviews, and recommends ways to prevent deaths. Needed records must be provided within five days, not counting weekends or holidays, when the program chair requests…
- Women’s deaths leave child review scope: cost, low. Local child fatality review chairs still must review death certificates for children who die in their area. They no longer have a required review duty for women who die there.
- Maternal death case reviews stay private: mixed, low. Meetings are closed to the public while the program reviews an individual maternal death linked to pregnancy. This protects the privacy of case reviews but limits public access to those meetings. Other program meetings remain open.
