## Bill overview: provisions PRIA read

- More public workers can join retirement fund: benefit, medium. Qualifying water and sewer commissions can join the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, giving their employees access to its retirement benefits. A commission must apply at least 90 days before participation, with approval by two-thirds of its governing body. The Board must approve the application…
- Local governments get no state reimbursement: cost, low. The State does not have to reimburse local governments for costs of carrying out mandates created by this law. The law sets no reimbursement amount or funding period.
- Bigger death benefits for retiree families: mixed, high. For covered annuitant deaths on or after January 1, 2027, an eligible beneficiary receives a one-time $8,000 benefit. The benefit remains $3,000 for annuitants who first retired before the amendatory law took effect. The higher benefit is also included in municipal contribution-rate calculations.
