## Bill overview: provisions PRIA read

- Wider police powers for state protection: benefit, low. Starting July 1, 2026, DPS officers assigned by the commissioner to transport or protect state officials or dignitaries have general police powers statewide while doing that work. They do not need a governor’s proclamation for these assignments.
- Subscriber line fee authority continues: cost, low. The law keeps authority to charge a fee on each subscriber service line after July 1, 2028. The amount is not stated. A service provider may pass the fee on to customers.
- Higher fees for restored salvage vehicles: cost, low. Owners applying for a branded title for a restored salvage vehicle pay a $125 inspection fee, up from $75. DPS may also charge $50 for a vehicle identification check, up from $25. That check applies when federal rules require it and DPS charges the fee.
- Counties pay more for autopsies: cost, low. The payment to a pathologist rises to $1,200 for each completed autopsy, up from $1,000. Counties paying for autopsies face an increase of $200 per autopsy. Mileage and qualifying third-party testing costs remain separate.
