## Bill overview: provisions PRIA read

- Early public notice for nontenure cuts: benefit, low. Beginning July 1, 2025, school boards must place any proposed nonrenewal of a nontenure teacher for financial reasons on a meeting agenda by June 1. The proposal is treated as a matter of significant public interest. Open-meeting rules apply, so the public can see and comment.
- Nontenure teachers face without-cause cuts: mixed, medium. Beginning July 1, 2025, a district can nonrenew a nontenure teacher for financial reasons and treat it as without cause. That lowers job protections tied to cause-based actions. However, if a valid collective bargaining agreement covers nonrenewals, those contract terms still control.
