## Bill overview: provisions PRIA read

- Minimum pensions guaranteed for 1984 hires: benefit, high. For officers employed on January 1, 1984 and kept working to retirement, the law guarantees a minimum pension. With 25 years and retirement after age 60, the floor is 50% of regular pay. With 25 years and retirement after age 55 but before 60, the floor is 40%. You may still choose a lump sum or ot…

- Tiny pensions paid as lump sums: benefit, low. If your straight life annuity would be less than $25 per month, you get a lump sum instead. The lump sum equals your retirement value, and you cannot choose an annuity. Effective October 1, 2026.
- Police annuity set by contract terms: mixed, low. When you choose an annuity, your amount equals what the annuity contract bought with your retirement value pays on the first payment date. If the retirement system gives you that annuity contract, its duty to pay retirement, death, or disability benefits ends. Effective October 1, 2026.
