Proposed Victim Compensation Rule Withdrawn

On January 6, 2025, the Department of Justice withdrew the February 5, 2024 proposed rule (89 FR 7639) that would have replaced the Victim Compensation Program Guidelines. The existing Victim Compensation Program Guidelines (published May 16, 2001) remain in place; the Office of Justice Programs said it received several thousand comments and will continue stakeholder engagement before any new rulemaking.
