2022 Illegal-Fishing Rule Withdrawn
If you fish commercially or run a seafood business, the National Marine Fisheries Service is withdrawing the proposed rule it published on July 8, 2022, and the withdrawal is effective January 16, 2025. The July 2022 proposal would have implemented the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (PSMA) and amended definitions and enforcement procedures for illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing; NMFS says it has been revising the proposal to conform to the December 23, 2022 NDAA but will not finalize a revised rule during this Administration. NMFS terminated that rulemaking and may issue a new proposed rule in the future.
