Beckley Class E Airspace Redrawn
The FAA proposes to change the Class E airspace at Raleigh County Memorial Airport (Beckley, WV) because the Beckley VOR is being removed. Changes include a 4.3-mile surface-area radius with multiple 1-mile-wide bearing extensions (to 5.2, 4.9, 5.0, and 5.1 miles on specified bearings) and a reduction of the 700-foot-above-surface airspace radius from 7.0 miles to 6.8 miles plus new 2-mile-wide bearing extensions reaching up to 8.9 and 8.8 miles. The amendment is intended to bring the airspace into compliance with FAA orders and to support instrument flight rules (IFR) procedures and operations at the airport.
FAA Says Minimal Impact on Small Entities
The FAA certified that this proposed airspace amendment is a routine technical change and "will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities" under the Regulatory Flexibility Act. The agency says the anticipated impact is minimal and does not warrant a regulatory evaluation.
Beckley VOR Decommissioned (VOR MON)
The Beckley VOR is being decommissioned as part of the VOR Minimum Operational Network (MON) Program, and the proposed airspace changes result from that decommissioning. The change is intended to support IFR procedures and keep instrument flight operations safe and operationally current.
