Flood map changes that may alter insurance

FEMA finalized updates to flood maps for the listed communities (St. Mary's County, MD; Logan County, ND; Davison County, SD; Lunenburg County, VA) that may add or change Base Flood Elevations, base flood depths, Special Flood Hazard Area boundaries, zone designations, or regulatory floodways. These changes take effect on May 6, 2025 and may change flood insurance rules and costs for homeowners and renters in those communities.

Communities must adopt floodplain measures for NFIP

The Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports are the basis of the floodplain management measures a community is required to adopt or show are in effect so it can qualify or remain qualified for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The final determinations listed are tied to these requirements for the named communities.

Maps available — review by May 6, 2025

The revised FIRM and, if applicable, the FIS report for each listed community will be available for inspection at the community map repository addresses in the notice and online at the FEMA Map Service Center (https://msc.fema.gov) by May 6, 2025. Interested lessees and owners of real property are encouraged to review these materials to check flood risk and insurance needs.
