Airbus Fleets Must Ditch Faulty Oxygen Generators Immediately

Published Date: 2/4/2025

Rule

Summary

The FAA is making sure all Airbus planes listed get safer by replacing faulty oxygen generators that didn’t work when needed. This affects many Airbus models and stops old, unsafe parts from being used again. Airlines need to act quickly to keep passengers safe, but the fix helps avoid bigger problems down the line.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Airlines Must Replace Faulty Oxygen Generators

If you operate or maintain certain Airbus airplanes, the FAA requires replacing affected chemical oxygen generators and prohibits installing those affected parts. The rule applies to many Airbus models, including A300 B4 series, A310, A318–A321 series, A330 variants (including -841 and -941), and A340 series.

Passenger Safety Improved by Parts Replacement

If you fly on the listed Airbus models, the FAA's directive removes chemical oxygen generators that failed to activate and requires their replacement to address an unsafe condition. That action is intended to make in-flight oxygen systems more reliable and reduce safety risks for passengers and crew.
