Summary

Georgia Power Company wants to make some changes to their North Georgia hydroelectric project on the Savannah River basin, but these changes won’t affect how much power it produces. People living in parts of Georgia and South Carolina near the project might notice updates, and the public has until March 5, 2025, to share their thoughts or get involved. No big money changes are expected, but it’s a chance to speak up about the project’s future!

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Two Unit Upgrades at Burton Development

Georgia Power asked FERC to approve upgrades to two generating units at the Burton Development that would raise installed capacity from 8.1 megawatts (MW) to 9.6 MW. The upgrades are scheduled to begin in 2025 and are expected to take about four months per unit, but the company says the project’s operations and hydraulic capacity will not change.

No Ground Disturbance or Recreation Impacts

The licensee states the proposed upgrades would not cause any ground disturbance and would not affect recreation facilities or their use. If you use recreation areas near the project, the filing says your access and the facilities would remain unchanged.
