U.S. Slaps Extra Fees on Indian Stainless Steel Flanges

Published Date: 2/25/2025

Notice

Summary

The U.S. checked if Indian makers of stainless steel flanges got unfair help from their government in 2022 and found they did. Because of this, certain extra fees (called countervailing duties) will apply to these products when they enter the U.S. This means importers and Indian exporters need to pay attention to new costs starting now.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Countervailing duties on Indian flanges

The Department of Commerce found that producers and exporters of stainless steel flanges from India received subsidies during January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. As a result, countervailing duties (extra import fees) will apply to those stainless steel flanges when they enter the United States, meaning U.S. importers will face additional costs.

Indian producers/exporters hit with duties

Commerce determined that producers and exporters of stainless steel flanges in India received countervailable subsidies during January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. Because of that finding, those Indian producers and exporters will be subject to countervailing duties on shipments of stainless steel flanges to the U.S.
