Required autopilot software update for certain 777s
If an operator uses Boeing Model 777-200, -200LR, -300, -300ER, or 777F airplanes, the FAA requires installing new autopilot flight director computer (AFDC) operational program software and performing a software configuration check. The directive responds to a glideslope (G/S) beam anomaly that resulted in a higher-than-expected descent rate during an ILS approach and could cause misleading flight director guidance after autopilot disconnect. The FAA issued this airworthiness directive to address that unsafe condition on those airplanes.
