Chatuge Dam Safety Upgrades Planned

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) plans to modify Chatuge Dam’s spillway, low-level outlet, and embankment because evaluations from 2016 through 2022 found the risk of uncontrolled releases exceeds TVA’s safety tolerance. TVA will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to study potential environmental impacts. TVA says the work is intended to protect nearby communities and the environment.
