Foreign-built S/V Wind Therapy Under Review

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) is reviewing a request to allow the foreign-built small passenger vessel S/V Wind Therapy to operate in U.S. coastwise trade. MARAD is asking whether that proposed use would have an adverse effect on U.S. vessel builders or U.S. coastwise trade businesses that use U.S.-built vessels; the review concerns vessels that carry no more than twelve passengers for hire.

MARAD Authority for Small Passenger Vessel Requests

MARAD is authorized to make determinations about coastwise use for foreign-built, certain U.S.-built, and rebuilt vessels that carry no more than twelve passengers for hire. Operators of small passenger vessels can submit such determination requests to MARAD for consideration.
