If you owe money to the Department of Health and Human Services and it’s overdue, HHS will charge annual interest of 11 5/8% (11.625%) for the quarter ended March 31, 2025. This rate is down from 12 3/8% (12.375%) for the quarter ended December 31, 2024 and will apply until HHS publishes a new rate.
Minimum rate floor and waiver exceptions
HHS may not set the interest rate below the Department of the Treasury's current value of funds rate or the applicable rate from the "Schedule of Certified Interest Rates with Range of Maturities" unless the Secretary waives interest in whole or part or a statute, contract, or repayment agreement prescribes a different rate. The Secretary of the Treasury may revise the certified rate quarterly.
