Extra Taxes Hit Indian Oil Pipes for Subsidies

Published Date: 5/13/2025

Notice

Summary

The U.S. checked if Indian companies making oil country tubular goods (OCTG) got unfair government help in 2022 and found they did. Because of this, some extra taxes (called countervailing duties) will apply to these products when they enter the U.S. This means importers and Indian exporters need to watch for new costs starting now.

Countervailing Duties on OCTG Imports

The Department of Commerce found countervailable subsidies to producers and exporters of oil country tubular goods (OCTG) from India for the period January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. As a result, extra countervailing duties (taxes) will apply to OCTG from India when those products enter the United States, and importers and Indian exporters should expect new costs.
