You Get Paid to Complete Surveys
Households selected for the HTOPS panel will receive an incentive for each completed questionnaire. Surveys are voluntary and invitations will be sent by email and SMS.
Time Burden: 20 Minutes Per Survey
If you are invited, each HTOPS response takes about 0.333 hours (20 minutes). The Census estimates 16,000 respondents per collection (192,000 annually) and total burden hours of 5,328 per collection (62,936 annually).
Survey Offers Internet and Phone Access
HTOPS invitations will be sent via email and SMS with questionnaires mainly by internet self-response; respondents who do not use the internet can respond via computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI).
Public Data Releases for Policy and Research
Data collected from HTOPS will be released as public-use data files and detailed data tables for use by federal, state, and local agencies; academic and non-government organizations; the media; and the public.
June: Economic Topics; August: Health Topics
The HTOPS June topical survey will focus on economic issues and events and the August topical survey will focus on health; the program will skip July collections for system updates and plans to begin the June collection on or about June 17, 2025 and the August collection on or about August 19, 2025.
