GE Engines Face Tiny Iron Particle Recall Mandate

Published Date: 5/20/2025

Rule

Summary

The FAA is making sure certain GE airplane engines stay safe by requiring some turbine disks to be replaced because they might have tiny iron bits that could cause problems. This affects specific GE CF6-80E1 engine models and means owners need to swap out these parts soon to keep flying safely. The fix helps avoid costly engine issues and keeps everyone on board worry-free.

GE CF6-80E1 Turbine Disks Must Be Replaced

If your airplane uses a General Electric CF6-80E1A2, CF6-80E1A3, CF6-80E1A4, or CF6-80E1A4/B engine, the FAA requires replacement of the high-pressure turbine (HPT) stage 1 and HPT stage 2 disks that were made from powder metal suspected to contain iron inclusion. The rule requires installing parts eligible for installation to address the unsafe condition so the engine and airplane can remain airworthy.
