Published Date: 5/22/2025

Notice

Summary

Steve Trevino from San Antonio got caught smuggling guns from the U.S. to Mexico and was sentenced to nearly 5 years in prison. Because of this, the government is banning him from exporting anything for 10 years and taking away any export licenses he had. This means Trevino can’t legally send goods out of the country until 2033, and any money tied to his export activities is frozen.

10-Year Export Ban for Named Individual

Steve Trevino was convicted of smuggling (18 U.S.C. 554) and sentenced to 57 months imprisonment and three years supervised release. BIS has denied Trevino's export privileges for a period of 10 years from his conviction, making him unable to participate in any transaction involving items subject to the Export Administration Regulations until December 19, 2033.

Revocation of Any BIS Licenses Held

BIS will revoke any Bureau of Industry and Security-issued licenses or authorizations in which Trevino had an interest at the time of his conviction. Those revoked licenses cannot be used by or on behalf of Trevino following this Order.

Broad Prohibition on Transactions With Denied Person

From the date of the Order until December 19, 2033, no person may export, reexport, transfer to or on behalf of Trevino any item subject to the Regulations, facilitate his acquisition of such items (including financing), acquire items from him with knowledge they will be exported, or service items owned or controlled by him if that servicing involves items subject to the Regulations. 'Servicing' includes installation, maintenance, repair, modification, or testing.

Order Can Extend to Related Entities

The Order states that any person, firm, corporation, or business organization related to Trevino by ownership, control, position, affiliation, or other connection in trade or business may also be made subject to this Order to prevent evasion of the denial.
