Notice
Summary
The U.S. Treasury’s OFAC just added new people to its blacklist, meaning their U.S.-based money and property are frozen, and Americans can’t do business with them. They also updated info on someone already on the list. These changes take effect immediately, so watch out for blocked assets and no-go deals!
Analyzed Economic Effects
3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.
Blocked Assets Under U.S. Jurisdiction
All property and interests in property subject to U.S. jurisdiction of the listed persons are blocked, meaning funds and property in the U.S. tied to those persons must be frozen. U.S. banks and holders must block those assets and cannot transfer them.
U.S. Persons Barred From Dealing
The notice says U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with the newly listed persons on OFAC's SDN List. That means Americans and U.S.-based businesses should not do business with those individuals or entities.
Update to SDN Listing Information
OFAC is updating the identifying information for one person already on the SDN List. Organizations that screen for SDN matches may need to update records and watchlists to reflect the new identifying details.
