Subsidized Vanilla Crackdown: Extra Taxes on Chinese Imports
Published Date: 6/6/2025
Notice
Summary
The U.S. says Chinese vanillin makers, especially Jiaxing Guihua, got unfair government help. Because of this, extra taxes (called countervailing duties) will be added to their vanillin imports from 2023. This means U.S. buyers might pay more, and Chinese exporters will have to play fair starting now.

Countervailing duties on Chinese vanillin
The U.S. Department of Commerce found that producers and exporters of vanillin from the People’s Republic of China received countervailable subsidies. As a final affirmative determination, countervailing duties (extra taxes on imports) will be applied to those vanillin imports; the investigation covered Jiaxing Guihua and the period January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023. U.S. buyers and businesses that import vanillin may pay higher prices as a result.
