Published Date: 6/10/2025

Rule

Summary

The FCC is making sure radio and TV stations clearly say when their shows come from foreign governments. This change affects broadcasters who must now check and disclose this info starting soon, helping viewers know who’s behind what they watch. No big costs, just clearer rules and a set date to follow.

Broadcasters must identify foreign-government programming

If you run a radio or television station, you must broadcast clear disclosures when programming is provided by a foreign governmental entity. You must also follow the procedures for exercising "reasonable diligence" to decide when such a disclosure is needed, as adopted in FCC 24-61 and reflected in the OMB-approved information collection (OMB Control Number 3060-0174).

Viewers get clearer foreign-programming disclosures

You will see clear on-air disclosures on radio and TV when a program is provided by a foreign government, because the FCC adopted rules requiring those disclosures in FCC 24-61. The rule changes were reflected in an OMB-approved information collection under OMB Control Number 3060-0174 and the FCC will publish the effective date in the Federal Register.
