Summary
The U.S. Treasury’s OFAC just added some people and ships to a special blacklist because they broke important rules. This means any money or property they have in the U.S. is frozen, and Americans can’t do business with them. If you’re involved, watch out—these changes take effect immediately and could impact money and deals fast!
Analyzed Economic Effects
3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.
Listed persons’ U.S. assets frozen
If a person is added to OFAC’s SDN List, any money or property they have that is subject to U.S. jurisdiction is blocked immediately. That means the listed person cannot access or use those U.S.-based assets going forward.
U.S. persons barred from transacting
If you are a U.S. person, you are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with anyone on OFAC’s SDN List, effective immediately. That means businesses and individuals must stop or avoid deals, payments, or transfers with those listed persons.
Vessels identified as blocked property
OFAC has placed one or more vessels on the SDN List as property in which a blocked person has an interest, effective immediately. U.S. persons generally may not engage in transactions involving those vessels or their interests.
