Cleaner Air for Salt Lake City

The EPA is proposing to approve Utah’s revisions to the State Implementation Plan to address the 2006 24-hour PM2.5 standard in the Salt Lake City nonattainment area. The revisions update rules so five local facilities will use better pollution controls, which the EPA says will help the air get cleaner faster; changes begin rolling out after May 2025.

Updated Controls for Five Facilities

The SIP revisions include updated best available control measures / best available control technology (BACM/BACT) determinations for five facilities in the Salt Lake City nonattainment area, per the State of Utah draft dated May 20, 2025. Those facilities will be subject to revised pollution-control requirements as the changes roll out after May 2025, and the proposal notes no big new costs have been announced.
