CDC Seeks Extension for Hospital Recognition Forms

Published Date: 8/5/2025

Notice

Summary

The CDC is asking for more time—30 extra days—to collect public feedback on their Million Hearts Hospitals & Health Systems Recognition Program forms. This affects hospitals and health systems who might need to fill out these forms, but no new costs or deadlines are changing yet. The goal is to make sure the info collected is useful, clear, and not a hassle to provide.

Analyzed Economic Effects

6 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.

Voluntary Application, Time Burden Only

Hospitals and health systems may apply to the Million Hearts Hospitals & Health Systems Recognition Program voluntarily and there are no monetary costs to respond. CDC estimates an annual total burden of 149 hours from up to 50 applicants per year, with the application averaging 160/60 hours (about 2.67 hours) and interview responses averaging 30/60 hours (0.5 hours).

Year-Round Web Application and Review Timeline

The program uses a web-based application that stays open year-round; CDC will review applications quarterly and recognize acceptable applications within six months of review. CDC anticipates up to 50 applicants will be processed each year.

Background Check Requirement for Applicants

All applicants to the Million Hearts Hospitals & Health Systems Recognition Program will be subject to a background check as part of the application process.

Interviews for Applicants Reporting Outcomes

Applicants who report outcomes, and a selection of those committing to or implementing strategies, will be asked to participate in a semi-structured qualitative interview; CDC estimates about 30 interview respondents per year at roughly 0.5 hours per interview.

Public Recognition for Reported Outcomes

Applicants with reported outcomes may receive increased recognition: success stories can be posted on the Million Hearts website and amplified via e-newsletters, social media, learning collaboratives, and presentations.

Minimum Strategy Implementation Requirement to Apply

To apply, institutions must address at least one strategy in at least three of the four specified areas (Building Healthy Communities, Optimizing Care, Focusing on Health Equity, and Supplemental Programs and Innovations) in the online application.
