State removes discretionary emission exemptions
If you live or run a business in North Carolina, the EPA is proposing to approve North Carolina’s October 27, 2023 plan change that removes a state official’s ability to exempt emissions that exceed otherwise applicable State Implementation Plan (SIP) limits under the Clean Air Act. That means state-level discretionary exceptions to SIP emission limits would be eliminated so everyone in North Carolina must follow the same clean air limits.
Mecklenburg County removes local emission exemptions
If you live or run a business in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, the EPA is proposing to approve Mecklenburg County’s October 25, 2023 plan change that removes a local exemption analogous to the State’s for emissions that exceed otherwise applicable SIP limits under the Clean Air Act. This will make local emissions subject to the same SIP limits and is intended to help keep the county’s air cleaner.
