Summary

Great news for Sacramento! The EPA confirms the area met clean air goals for ozone by the end of 2024, thanks to solid air quality improvements from 2022 to 2024. This means California won’t need to add extra backup plans to keep ozone levels down, saving time and resources while keeping the air fresh.

Sacramento met 2008 ozone standard

The EPA finalized that the Sacramento Metro area attained the 2008 8-hour ozone national ambient air quality standard by its December 31, 2024 attainment date, based on certified monitoring data from 2022 through 2024. This means the area is officially recorded as meeting that ozone standard.

Contingency measures requirement lifted

The EPA finalized that the State's requirement to have contingency measures for reasonable further progress (RFP) and attainment for the 2008 ozone NAAQS no longer applies to the Sacramento Metro area. That removes the obligation for the State to maintain those contingency plans for this area tied to the 2008 ozone standard.
