FCC Asks: Is Our Paperwork Too Annoying for Small Businesses?

Published Date: 8/28/2025

Notice

Summary

The FCC is checking in with the public and agencies to make sure its paperwork isn’t too tricky or time-consuming. They want to know if the info they collect is really needed, clear, and easy to handle—especially for small businesses. This is a chance to help shape how the FCC collects info, with no penalties if forms don’t have the right approval number.

FCC asks to reduce paperwork burdens

The Federal Communications Commission is asking the public to comment under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 on whether its information collections are necessary, clear, and useful and on ways to reduce burden. The notice explicitly asks for ways to minimize burden on small business concerns with fewer than 25 employees and for suggestions like using automated collection to cut paperwork time.

No penalty if OMB number missing

The FCC states it may not conduct or sponsor a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number, and 'No person shall be subject to any penalty' for failing to comply with a collection that does not display a valid OMB control number. This protects people and businesses who receive forms without a valid OMB number from penalties.
