Published Date: 9/9/2025

Notice

Summary

The U.S. checked if Oman Aluminium Rolling Company got special government help while making aluminum foil in 2022. They found that the company did receive some subsidies, which means the U.S. might adjust duties (extra taxes) on their foil imports. This could affect prices and trade starting now, keeping things fair for American businesses.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Oman Foil Imports May Face Duties

The Department of Commerce found that Oman Aluminium Rolling Company SPC received countervailable subsidies for certain aluminum foil during the period January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. Because of that finding, the U.S. may adjust countervailing duties (extra import taxes) on that company's aluminum foil, which could raise prices for U.S. importers and buyers of that foil.

Determination Aims to Protect U.S. Firms

Commerce's finding that Oman Aluminium Rolling Company SPC received subsidies is intended to keep trade fair for American businesses. U.S. foil producers and competing businesses may benefit if duties are adjusted to offset the foreign subsidies.
