Turkey's Steel Rebar Gets Subsidy Slap from U.S.

Published Date: 9/12/2025

Notice

Summary

The U.S. checked if steel rebar from Türkiye got unfair government help in 2022 and found that they did. Because of this, some extra fees (called countervailing duties) will apply to these steel bars when they come into the U.S. Companies involved should watch for these changes starting now to avoid surprises at the border.

Turkish Rebar Faces New Import Duties

If you import steel concrete reinforcing bar (rebar) from the Republic of Türkiye, extra import fees called countervailing duties will apply because the Department of Commerce found subsidies were provided during the review period January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. Companies that import or buy Turkish rebar should expect these duties when the steel arrives in the U.S.
