HUD Extends Deadline for Fair Market Rents Feedback, Fixes Honolulu Oversight

Published Date: 9/19/2025

Notice

Summary

HUD is giving more time for people to share their thoughts on the 2026 Fair Market Rents (FMRs) used for housing programs, extending the comment deadline to October 1, 2025. They also fixed a mistake by adding Urban Honolulu to the list of areas with updated rent data, which could affect local rent limits and housing assistance. This means housing agencies and renters in those areas get a fairer chance to weigh in and see accurate rent numbers for next year.

Urban Honolulu FMRs Corrected

HUD corrected an omission and added the Urban Honolulu, HI Metropolitan Statistical Area to the list of areas with FMRs based on local ad hoc surveys collected prior to 2024. HUD has updated and corrected the FY 2026 Fair Market Rent (FMR) values for the Urban Honolulu MSA on HUD's Fair Market Rent Documentation System web page. These updated FMRs may change local rent limits and housing assistance for renters and Public Housing Agencies in Urban Honolulu.
