Estimated Respondent Burden and Responses

You (individuals and households) may be asked to respond to TIMSS 2027 questionnaires. The Department estimates 19,236 total annual responses and 8,047 total annual burden hours for this information collection.

No U.S. Participation in 2026 Field Test

The United States will not participate in the TIMSS 2026 field test and will only participate in the TIMSS 2027 main study. Recruitment for the main study begins in Spring 2026 and data collection will occur March through June 2027, with final questionnaires expected to be submitted in January 2027.

TIMSS 2027 Will Be Computer-Based (eTIMSS)

TIMSS 2027 will be administered as a computer-based assessment ("eTIMSS") using the eTIMSS player; this will be the third eTIMSS assessment cycle in the United States. Respondents will complete the assessment electronically during the main study data collection (March through June 2027).
