Who Can Request Repatriation and How

Any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization (including those not named in this notice) may submit a written request for repatriation if they show by a preponderance of the evidence that they are a lineal descendant or culturally affiliated. Send requests to Lisa Anderson, New York State Museum, 3049 Cultural Education Center, Albany, NY 12230 or email [email protected]; repatriation may occur on or after December 17, 2025. If competing requests are received, the museum will determine the most appropriate requestor and joint requests are treated as a single request.
