Continued MCS-150 Filing Requirement

If you run a motor carrier, freight-forwarding business, intermodal equipment provider, broker, cargo tank facility, or a Mexico-domiciled carrier, you must continue to file the Motor Carrier Identification Report (Form MCS-150, MCS-150B, or MCS-150C) on occasion and biennially. FMCSA estimates 572,983 respondents and a total annual paperwork burden of 160,169 hours; typical times are 20 minutes for new filings and 7.5 minutes for biennial updates for Form MCS-150.

New Applicants Must File Online

Applicants filing for the first time to register with FMCSA will be required to submit their Form MCS-150, MCS-150B, or MCS-150C online. This requirement applies to first-time registrants beginning operations before interstate or hazardous materials operations.

Registration Data Is Publicly Available

Information submitted on Forms MCS-150, MCS-150B, and MCS-150C (business name, principal address and phone, operation type, cargo types, vehicle counts, driver information, and certifications) is readily available to the public. FMCSA will maintain this information in its Motor Carrier Management Information System.
